light up, light up, as if you have a choice. even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you dear. louder, louder, and we'll run for our lives. I can hardly speak, I understand why you can't raise your voice to say.

piercingopinion

[owlclock]
Just got a job, so now I'm going to have some money rolling in... I'm considering a new piercing since I haven't had any facial ones in a few years. I have a few ideas (including but NOT LIMITED to: nose (again), philtrum, center labret, tongue... I don't know), but I'd like some suggestions on what might look nice on my face. I'm asking ahead of time so I have time to research and decide.. TIA :) X POSTEDDDD.

and every relationship i've ever been in, has fallen apart at the seams
and i'm just afraid i've been singing about love but i'll never find out what it means
and if i was honest about what the problem is, i'd have to admit that it's me
i'm just trying to live up, to all that you want me to be...

It's only love and that is all,
Why should I feel the way I do?

It was started one year before Strathcona amalgamated with Edmonton in 1912, but not completed until the following year as Strathcona's Post Office and offices for Customs and Inland Revenue. The Strathcona Public Building was designed in the Edwardian Classical Revival style and was declared a Provincial Historic Resource in 1985.

Intro post: new relationship please offer tips! [15 Nov 2009|08:48pm]

loversfaraway

[emmala]

My name
: emmala
His name: r
I live: Washington D.C.
He lives: Rochester
My age: 24
His age: 24
Distance: 300 odd
Together since: Oh lets make it even and say October 9ish 2009
How we met: in a grad certificate program fall after graduation from college
We get to see each other (approximately how often): i think the aim at this point is once a month but with no offence meant to the lovely residents of the finger lakes district rochester is a pain in the ass to get to even from new york city never mind another 4 hour bus trip south! but since we are in graduate school and i'm graudating in may (though i have no plans to move to rochester) it's as much an issue of when papers are do and money as anything else. and we do get to have long brakes.
Future plans: live by the sea, employed in our respective areas of history. i think that point its the most we can think of.

I decided to join this community because this relationship has been simmering for almost 2 years and now that it's come to fruition just as my sweetie moves even farther from me for school i find myself feeling a bit alone. i've gotten more then a few "he lives WHERE!?" which i except with the thought of relationships i know carried trans continentally or trans globally. but given i've seen tickets to london that are about the same as the standard to rochester by plane it's all reletive.

but it is a bit issolating and i'm curious how folks make this work. i have done long distance before but never with this intensity and never at the begining of a relationship and at such a distance (save when i was abroad as an undergrad which had a clear end). i graduate in may and will then be on the job market for a museum job and fully intend to continue my goal of applying to jobs in the uk ireland and canada as well as the states. r has 2 more years of obligation to stay in rochester before he devotes his time to his distertation and can move anywhere with a computer and library. so assuming this lasts chances of us being together for more then a months at a time for the next 2 years are slim. i should note our fields of interest are similar so chances of us functioning well in the same place are good save that whole totally crap job market in both our fields thing. major thing.

we are doing the letters and the im-ing and the texting and the phone calls. we're not idiots. and are actually maritime historians of a sort so have lots from that tradition to pull from but here in the 20th century i could use some tips.

what works for you?
what makes it all feel better?
any traditions or silly things you do that help ease the distance?
how do you stay abreast of each others lives enough that you feel you are really part of them and not just some guy or gal at the end of the phone?

i'm not asking for the be all and end all just for a bit of useful information to start this off right! cause i've been waiting 2 years for it and i'm not going to let go! ;)

literaryquotes

[__stereotherapy]
drunk on the dark streets of some city,
it's night, you're lost, where's your
room?
you enter a bar to find yourself,
order scotch and water.
damned bar's sloppy wet, it soaks
part of one of your shirt
sleeves.
It's a clip joint-the scotch is weak.
you order a bottle of beer.
Madame Death walks up to you
wearing a dress.
she sits down, you buy her a
beer, she stinks of swamps, presses
a leg against you.
the bar tender sneers.
you've got him worried, he doesn't
know if you're a cop, a killer, a
madman or an
Idiot.
you ask for a vodka.
you pour the vodka into the top of
the beer bottle.
It's one a.m. In a dead cow world.
you ask her how much for head,
drink everything down, it tastes
like machine oil.

you leave Madame Death there,
you leave the sneering bartender
there.

you have remembered where
your room is.
the room with the full bottle of
wine on the dresser.
the room with the dance of the
roaches.

Project reg. and update. Yay Holidays. [15 Nov 2009|07:15pm]

[shinnyneko]
Poor Thanksgiving gets left out again.

Ok first we'll get the updates out of the way.

Halloween set! http://community.livejournal.com/sew_loli/963042.html
The blouse was finished in time for Halloween (and worn) the capplette was finished shortly after Halloween and the jsk is yet to be started. ;>_> I basically had real life explode in my face over the course of October. We had a new and THANK GOD temporary manager at work, who seemed to make it a point to make my life/job a living hell and then have THE GALL to TELL ME that is was all MY fault. This left me with about a month of bad days and so completely burnout by the time I got home that all I wanted to do was sleep the rest of the day. No surprise there, that I didn't get my sewing projects completed on time. Anyway, blouse and capplette pics- )

Project Registration!
Holiday Ornament Bustle Skirt
I scored about 3 2/3 yds of dark navy with gold Daisy Kingdom "ANGELS ORNAMENTS BORDER" Christmas Fabric on ebay for ~$15! Oh what a skirt it will make~ I'm not a huge navy person and I really don't like gold AT ALL, so I decided to coordinate it with cream. In turn, I also decided that I needed to incorporate said cream into the skirt in some way. Voila, bustle skirt (idea) is born. Thanks to all the responses on my question post about the construction this skirt, I have a pretty good idea of where I'm going with it. I intend to make a matching AP style bow & pearls broach and maybe a head bow (If any of you can think of something classier then a headbow for this project I'll welcome the input). Sketch of design and fabric shot to oooo and aaaaah at. =P )
